Tronando was birthed by an innocent question between two good friends, Fred Bergmann and Joyce Michele, back in 1999. Why are you not in a Krewe he asked? She replied, “Because the only Krewes who have invited me are All-Women Krewes ....”.

They talked for a long time and decided that if they could bring together their friends, Oh what grand times would lie ahead! And so they did. Thus began an amazing adventure which can be best summarized with the Krewe Motto: Faith, Philanthropy and Fellowship Forever.

He chose Tronando to honor Tampa's ancestry. Tampa is an Indian word for “Sticks of Fire”, and as Tampa is known as the Lighting Capital of the World, it was logical to look to the Spanish language where the word “Tronando” means Thunder. She designed the Corsair look ... Simple, streamlined. Black cotton pantaloons for men, and sexy black skirts for the wenches. Black boots for both. A black and silver bead belt. The white cotton broadcloth pirate's shirt is unisex, another sign of the times .... Wenches, by the by, are women who bear arms...

Membership in Tronando remains by invitation only. The majority of the members have ties dating back ten to fifteen years, and have seen each other through much change. They invite new friends to join them on their rides, and we all get to meet them and enjoy their company. We then issue the coveted Silver Invitations to join our Krewe.... It is a congenial group, with common goals - to enjoy the moment while doing for others.

Charities are selected yearly and supported by the Krewe. Past recipients include Meals on Wheels, Elves for the Elderly and Angels Unaware.

Tronando's colors are silver and black. At this time, there are no debutantes, but we see that some of our members have future princes and princesses and mothers and fathers will be drafted one day to organize.

Legacies are recognized and encouraged.

In 2004, Tronando designed and built its very own float - a beautiful two story marvel - a castle to house those modern day corsairs as they ride through the streets of Tampa dispersing their treasures. The Krewe schedules several social events, open at this time only to members and their guests.

Thank you for interest. See you on the parade route!
